Year of the Dog Day 331

I went for a walk to Saint Anne’s Square at lunchtime today in search of a dog and I was really pleased when I spotted a gorgeous trainee Guide Dog! Annie is a lovely girl, she very friendly and enthusiastic, I got to give her a little stroke! Annie has been chosen to become a breeding dog, I imagine she would have the most beautiful puppies! This is the first time that Annie’s humans have done puppy walking; they are a bit nervous about her going, especially her human siblings but fortunately they’ll get to spend Christmas with her!

Year of the Dog Day 294

It’s been really rainy all day today so I had to wait for a break in the rain until I went looking for a dog! I went round to my parents house and when the rain wasn’t too bad I headed down the street. I was lucky because I spotted a dog straight away, a very handsome Border Collie. Toby is a really friendly boy and he’s so well behaved, he sat very still so that I could take a picture! The human that bread him is a photographer so he’s always good at having his picture taken! He’s also very clever and can do lots of tricks, he showed me spinning round and playing dead, he loves training! Toby is very calm for a Border Collie, his humans have had two others and he’s much more chilled than they were!

Year of the Dog Day 276

I popped into town today with Tim and Ethan. On the way home in the car I spotted a beautiful trainee Guide Dog so I got Tim to pull over so I could say hello! Bessie is a lovely girl, she has such a gorgeous face! I got to give her lots of fuss and even tickled her belly! Bessie has been with her puppy walker since she was 6 weeks old; she’s now 18 months old and she’s due to start her training any time now! This is the first time that her puppy walkers have looked after a Guide Dog puppy but they’ve had lots of Golden Retrievers in the past.

I really respect the people that look after the Guide Dog puppies, it must be so difficult to say goodbye to them, they obviously have really big hearts! Bessie’s walker is a bit nervous about how she’s feel saying goodbye but she would consider doing it again. Bessie is a very loving dogs, she loves cuddles. Bessie is best friends with another Guide Dog puppy called Warrior, they go for a walk and play together every day!

I’ve had a real treat today, a trip to the spa at the Last Drop Village with my mum! I’m extremely relaxed now! On the way back to the car I spotted a man walking two very lovely dogs so I went to meet them. By the time I’d reached them Bertie the Border Collie had already ran off so I decided to make Amber a beautiful Golden Labrador/ Retriever cross my dog of the day. Amber is a lovely girl, she very friendly and was also very relaxed! When Amber was a puppy she was in the Guide Dog training programme but unfortunately she didn’t make it because she didn’t stop ‘spending’ on the lead! Amber gets on well with her dog housemate Bertie although they are quite different temperament; Bertie doesn’t stop!

Year of the Dog Day 232

I meant to go out at lunchtime today to search for a dog but I didn’t get chance. I planned to pop to the park on the way home from work but then I spotted a trainee Guide Dog in the Historic Reading Room in work, I was very happy! Percy is a lovely friendly boy, he’s very chilled out and I got to give him a stroke! Percy starts his Guide Dog training next month, I bet he’ll be great. Percy has lived with his foster human since he was 7 weeks old. They’re going to miss him loads but they’re really glad that he’s going to do an amazing job and will make a real difference to some ones life. They would definitely do it again! Percy has 10 brothers and sisters and the are all training to be Guide Dogs.

I couldn’t decide which photo I liked the best so I’ve added a few!

Year of the Dog Day 101

We all popped to the shop this morning and as soon as we walked in I spotted some people with 2 guide dogs who were there to collect money for the Guide Dog Association http://www.guidedogs.org.uk/.

Inca is a working Guide Dog and has been with his human daddy for 3 years. Inca is pretty tall and his dad was telling me that they breed Guide Dogs to different sizes to match the height of their owners. They also take other things into consideration like how active the person is and the kind of activities they regularly do. It’s so obvious but I hadn’t thought about it before that they would do that, it makes so much sense! Inca was very friendly and was happy for everyone to say hello! He lent into me for a little cuddle!

Rinty is a retired Guide Dog. His previous owner developed problems with his arms and so couldn’t walk with him anymore. They did try to re-train Rinty but they found that he had developed a fear of heavy traffic and so he had to retire. His current human daddy has always had dogs and has been a puppy walker for 13 different Guide Dog puppies. I asked him it was really hard giving them up; I don’t know if I could do it! He said that it is pretty hard but you have to remind yourself that they’ll only be with you for a year and that there going on to do an amazing job! He said that it’s all worthwhile when you receive a letter from there new owner thanking you for the work you’ve done! Rinty also lives with a former Guide Dog trainee that didn’t make it!

I know I’ve said it before but I think that Guide Dogs are so amazing, what caring, gentle, clever dogs they are!

Year of the Dog Day 63

I went for a drive to Horwich today to take my son to the hairdressers and as we were parking up I spotted a lady training a guide dog so I went over to say hello. I wasn’t sure if they’d be able to stop but fortunately they could so I got to say hello to beautiful Thelma. Thelma is still a trainee guide dog, she’s in the last part of her training though and only has 2 months to go, what a clever girl! Thelma is sooo gentle and obviously very well behaved, she was one of the easiest dogs so far to get a photo of!

Since I’ve started my blog I’ve wanted to see a guide dog, they’re so amazing! The work they do is so fantastic, dogs really are incredible! To find out more about guide dogs follow the link below.
